Biography

A vibrant, confident and energetic soprano with “a uniquely beautiful timbre and flexibility”, Sara’s voice can be described as lyric with an impressive and firmly grounded range of coloratura and dramatic qualities. She has a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance with Departmental Distinction from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with the talented mezzo and vocal department chair Wendy Hillhouse and a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from St Olaf College in Minnesota, cum laude. Her operatic soprano lead roles include Suor Angelica, in the title role of this Puccini opera for the Festi’Val de Musique Valois in Provence; Gretel in Hansel & Gretel in San Francisco, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro in Berkeley; Loretta in Gianni Schicchi in Minnesota and Julie in Carousel in the Albans Arena; and the lead role of Mrs Waters in Ethel Smyth’s ‘The Boatswain’s Mate’ with St Albans Chamber Opera.

Some of Sara’s many international achievements in competition include the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Scholarship and Departmental Distinction, Burlingame Classical Vocal Soloist Competition First Prize, California Federation of Music Clubs Competition Prize, St. Olaf Senior Soloist, and the Winston Cassler Music Scholarship.
